Under-Performing and Emerging Companies
Recognizing the Early Warning Signs of Trouble


Under-performing companies do not always recognize a crisis as a whole or may not recognize the problems early enough to be easily correctable. To this end, Renaissance consultants have devised this checklist so as to recognize the early warning signs of trouble. If your company seems to be under-performing or has these problems listed below, management consultants usually are able to effectively turn a company around.

 

The Problem Checklist

Company is in intermittent or continual crisis.  
   
Financial trends for the past six months are negative.
 
a. Sales and/or profits -- remain the same or are decreasing.
 
b. Accounts receivable -- average number of days is increasing.
 
c. Accounts payable -- average number of days is increasing.
   
Effective backlog is decreasing or is no longer at comfortable levels.
   
Company does not have sufficient liquid cash to make critical investments in its prime business activities.
   
Company does not have accurate, timely, relevant and consistent financial information which is evaluated on a monthly basis.
   
Products or services do not have a defined, competitive edge which distinguishes company from its competition.
   
Quality, on time delivery and service are not considered to be better or at least equal to competition.
   
Company is overstaffed and/or personnel do not have a sense of urgency and involvement.
   
Company does not have a clear, focused goal of constantly increasing market share, sales, and profits--with procedures in place to achieve these goals.
   
Company does not have an up-to-date written business plan which includes goals, strategies and action items that is clearly articulated and agreed to by all key managers.
