Project Management--A Series of Ongoing Projects

Acting in a project management role, Renaissance consultants have a history of establishing and meeting deadlines and budgets, as well as for being responsible for on time and within budget implementation. Though many of the cases cited on this Web site involve individual project management assignments, included below is a specific case history (taken from our files) illustrating Renaissance consultants' success in project management.

Type of Company: Manufacturer
Type of Ownership: Private Company
Position:                   Consultant/Project Manager
Problem:                     Company's computer system was obsolete and failing. Management needed to find an inexpensive yet more efficient replacement that would also provide more effective handling of orders, scheduling, marketing and communicating with its' business partners. This had to be done within a short time frame.
Action: Engaged, on a project management basis, to update the CEO on the various technological alternatives available and determine which alternative was appropriate. Developed e-business/Internet-Intranet strategy to replace present failing system with Web-based technology. Determined the most suitable provider to install the integrated system. Negotiated with technology provider and achieved the budgeted price and timeline commitment. Responsible for project management regarding installation.

Based on the results of this project a series of individual project management assignments were undertaken.

Results:

Completed the Y2K compliance segment on schedule and within budget, while accomplishing the overall business goal: to migrate the legacy software (i.e. the already existing software and systems) seamlessly into scalable Web-based technology. This was accomplished on a cost-effective basis.

New assignment will enable the enterprise (i.e. the entire company and its' partners)--using Web-based technologies--to gain immediate competitive advantage and increase internal productivity.
