Marketing on the Internet
Internet marketing is difficult due to the rapidly changing nature of the Internet and the absence of an accepted body of knowledge. The key to Internet marketing is discovering which type(s) of marketing suits your firm the best and then merging the Internet marketing plan into your overall marketing plan. Many firms do not include Internet marketing as part of their overall marketing and business strategic thinking/plan, and, therefore, do not maximize its potential. The following case history is autobiographical in nature.
| Type of Company: | Management consulting firm |
| Type of Ownership: | Private |
| Position: | Project Manager |
| Problem: | A management consulting firm wanted to use the Internet as a marketing tool. |
| Action: | The first step was to decide the type of Internet
marketing to do, so that it fit into the overall
marketing plan of the firm. After performing market
research on the subject of Internet marketing, the
following three types of marketing were decided upon:
link exchange, a Web site and banners. A project manager, Webmaster and consultant were assigned the project. Clear lines of communication were established between the three people--thereby, maximizing the opportunities and, also, making this a team effort [in the project management environment] The Web site was designed and put up on the Internet. Then a process, whereby links were (could continue to be) exchanged, was initiated. [The icons are currently under development .] |
