Web Site Evaluation

A systematic Web site evaluation is essential in order to maximize the value of a Web site. It should be done after the initial Web site is completed, but prior to going online (and on a semi-annual basis, thereafter). Because the rules are constantly changing, management consultants are in a unique position to perform an objective evaluation. Taken from Renaissance files, the following is a case history that illustrates our consultants' expertise in Web site evaluation.

Type of Company:    Manufacturer of home improvement products
Type of Ownership: Private
Position: Project Manager/Management Consultant

Problem: A Web site was being developed to market online; after six months, it was still not online. The Webmaster was considering canceling the Web site because it appeared that it was not going to be used.
Action: The Web site was evaluated using Renaissance's "Web Site Evaluation Questionnaire." It immediately became clear that, although overall the Web site was in good shape, there were a few key problems (e.g. no Meta tags, important information missing due to lack of communication, etc.). It was also discovered that the marketing department and the Webmaster had not discussed the Web site and the Web site/Internet marketing was not integrated into the company's marketing plan.
Results:       An evaluation report was issued detailing specific recommendations for action regarding the problems in the Web site, and establishing the necessary time table. Communication was established between the Webmaster and the marketing department. Finally, the Marketing Department became involved in the Web site development.
